CTV: Loving Legumes

This Thursday, I’m lugging my 98-pound food processor onto the CTV set to make hummus. The trick? No tahini required. I’ll be taking sharing some cooking and storing tips as well as a healthy dose of garlic breath. If we all have some, no one will notice. Right?

Here come the judge!

As one of the judges for the Canadian Food Blog Awards, I’ll be reading a lot of blogs in the next little while. A lot of blogs. While I’ll be sitting alone at my computer, in spirit I’ll be joining forces with some of the most influential food writers in the country — Tony Aspler, Susan Sampson, Amy Rosen and Jamie Drummond. Wonder if they’ll be wearing their pajamas, too?

I’m onstage at the Royal

I’m teaming up with Heather Travis of the Beef Information Org. Together we’re putting on a pan searing demonstration at the Home and Entertainment Stage at this year’s Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. I’ll be showing the audience two different techniques, complete with sage and red wine pan sauce, while Heather will keep things lively with a bit of beef trivia and some kibitzing. If you’re at the show, stop by. The demo’s Sunday at 1:00 PM. On the fence? We’re handing out samples.

It’s Media Tour Time Again

For the second year, I’m in charge of the media tour for the Canadian Culinary Book Awards. It’s been a lot of organizing, but on Friday, I’ll be touring a group of food journalists through agricultural highlights at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. After the tour, it’s onto the awards. Nominees include Chef Michael Smith, Anna Olson, Tony Aspler, and Laura Calder. While I don’t know who wins, I do know Elizabeth Baird will be honoured with the Founders Award. And well deserved, too.
